Obituary Notice

Pookie DiseDISE, W. Wayne "Pookie," 76, born September 6, 1935 in Hopewell, Va., as the son of the late Willie Dise and Katie Futch Bowen. He went to be with the Lord on September 5, 2012 and passed peacefully surrounded by family. Pulmonary fibrosis claimed his life.

He graduated from Hopewell High School as the president of the student body and Pi Phi fraternity. He continued his education at Virginia Tech where he graduated in 1958 with a B.S. degree and was a member of the Delta Kappa Sigma fraternity. After proudly graduating from Virginia Tech, Pookie moved to Richmond, Va., and thereafter resided in Midlothian, Va., for 40 years.

Fresh out of college, Pookie was hired by Ford Motor Company and started a family of three children with his first wife of 37 years, Brenda Marie Montgomery. He was a dedicated Ford employee for over 30 years, retiring as a regional manager. He was a passionate and hard core Hokie fan and alumnus. He remarried late in life and is survived by his loving wife and soul mate, Carol Moore Hawley; and his three children, Kimberly Dise Trimble (Wayne), David Wayne Dise (Linda), William Montgomery "Monty" Dise (Lisa); and his stepdaughter, Marie Hawley Boger (Bill). Pookie, a.k.a. "The Dukeman," was a loving father and proud grandfather of 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at Bon Air Baptist Church, 2531 Buford Road, North Chesterfield, Va. 23235. Reception to follow. Pookie was a board member of Breath Matters.
